Gabriel Lizarraga :: Blog :: Fortaleza de Santa Cruz de Barra

July 18, 2010

Founded in 1555 and located by the entrance of the Guanabara Bay, Santa Cruz de Barra was a key point in Rio's defense. Today is still an active military facility, though tourists are allowed to visit while escorted by a military guide. Esteban explained to us that many political prisoners were held there during the 70s and 80s. It offers a great view of the Sugar Loaf.

After the visit we went to a shrimp restaurant, where I had a shrimp dish which name i can't remember, but it was delicious. Later, we went to Kilo ice-cream restaurant, good thing I was already full.
